Ligue 1

Ligue 1 is the top professional football (soccer) division in France. It is contested by 18 teams and is known for being one of the premier leagues in European football. Established in 1933, Ligue 1 serves as the primary competition for French clubs and is managed by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP). The league operates on a promotion and relegation system with Ligue 2, the second tier of French football. Teams accumulate points through wins and draws over the course of the season, with the club finishing with the most points being crowned the champion. Ligue 1 is also recognized for its emphasis on youth development and has produced several notable players who have played in top leagues around the world.
