Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. In MS, the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers, known as myelin, leading to inflammation and damage. This disruption in communication between the brain and the body can result in a wide range of neurological symptoms, including fatigue, difficulties with coordination and balance, numbness, vision problems, and cognitive changes. The course of the disease can vary significantly among individuals, with some experiencing relapses and remissions, while others may have a progressive decline in function. The exact cause of MS is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
